First Two Public Works Crew Members Earn CDL Through Newly Created In-house CDL Program

Congrats to Andrew Gooding and Joe Capell, the first two Public Works crew members to get their Commercial Driver's License (CDL) through our newly created in-house CDL program!

The Public Works Department relies on employees with a CDL to operate various dump trucks and semi-trucks. Without CDL drivers, the Department would not be able to provide the services expected by our citizens.

The in-house CDL program consists of formal training on theory and behind-the-wheel applications. A special thank you to program instructors Rusty Taul and Jeff Welton, who taught the theory class, and Sharon Johnson and Darryl Macy, who led the driving portion.

Third-party training courses range from $3,000 to $10,000 per person, so we are extremely thankful to our Public Works Department for developing the internal curriculum and already getting two new drivers through the program. We are excited to have this pathway for existing and future Public Works employees to earn a CDL.
