Third Times the Charm Emporia State's Owen Long earns third MIAA Player of the Week Award
Emporia State's Owen Long picked up his third MIAA Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week, presented by Shift Group as he averaged 33.5 points in a pair of Hornet wins last week.
In the two games he shot .548 from the field, .524 from the three-point line and .909 from the free throw line.
The junior guard scored a career high 34 points in the Hornets 69-60 win over Northeastern State. He hit a jumper in the lane to give ESU a three-possession lead with 1:19 left and then hit four of four at the free throw line in the final minute to ice the win over the RiverHawks.
Long had his second straight 30-plus point game when he went for 33 in ESU's 77-63 win over Rogers State. He scored 14 points in the first 5:10 of the second half as the Hornets turned a six-point halftime deficit into an eight-point lead. Long hit four three-pointers a span of 2:22 during the run.
His 69 made three pointers ranks 11th on the ESU single season list. The Sikeston, Mo. native is also leading the MIAA in scoring this season.
