Braves Down Tabor, 66-58

The Ottawa University men's basketball defeated Tabor College 66-58 in Tabor Gymnasium on Saturday night. The win is OU's seventh straight over the Bluejays.

Ottawa scored the first six points of the game to take the early lead over Tabor. The Bluejays answered with a 15-2 run and led 15-8 with 8:57 to go in the half.

The Braves responded with a run of their own, 19-5, and retook the lead 27-20 after a Tristen Hull basket. Tabor scored the next five points, cutting OU's lead to 27-25 with 1:37 on the clock.

Ottawa was able to increase its lead in the final minute of the half. Baskets by Kamren Woods and Hull along with free throws from Ian Moore gave OU a 33-25 lead at the half.

Tabor was able to cut OU's lead to three points, 37-34, in the first three minutes of the second half. Ottawa put together an 8-0 run to take its first double digit lead of the game, 45-34.

The Bluejays did not go away, however, and responded with a 15-3 run to retake the lead 49-48 with 6:31 left in regulation. Ottawa answered that run with one of its own, 9-0, and led 58-49 after a Deondre Buggage 3-pt field goal.

TC had one last run left, cutting OU's lead to 60-56 with 44 seconds on the clock. The Bluejays tried to extend the game and were forced to foul, sending the Braves to the free throw line three times. Ottawa was a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe, taking the 66-58 victory.

Ottawa shot 33.3 percent from the floor, 11.1 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 88.9 percent from the free throw line.

Ty Bland led the way with a double-double. He scored 18 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. Bland also had two steals.

Deondre Buggage and Ian Moore scored 14 points apiece and Tristen Hull came off the bench to score 12 points.
