Astronomical phenomena, Butler fall sports to be discussed
Butler Community College’s Life Enrichment will host Brad Nuest and Tyler Nordman on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 9 a.m. in the Hubbard Welcome Center on the college’s El Dorado campus.
Nuest, education manager and volunteer coordinator at the Museum of World Treasures, will present “Celestial Omens: How the Ancients Regarded Astronomical Events.” This talk will delve into astronomical phenomena such as the appearance of comets and lunar and solar eclipses. While we understand these occurrences today, ancient cultures ascribed to them supernatural significance, often foretelling dire events, such the death of a king or a famine.
Nordman, associate athletic director at Butler, will talk about Butler’s fall sports — football, volleyball, soccer, and cross country — and may bring a few special guests along with him!
Life Enrichment meets on the first Tuesday morning of the month during the school year. Area adults enjoy high-quality speakers and performers, along with a light breakfast and coffee during each regular meeting. Meetings take place in the Clifford/Stone Community Room at the Hubbard Welcome Center on the El Dorado campus. Meetings are open to everyone and there is no charge to attend. Regular attendees are encouraged to register so they receive monthly newsletters announcing the programs. New members are always welcome.
