The No. 1 ranked Johnson County volleyball team is off to a tremendous start to the 2022 season. In fact, they are off to a record setting start, winning all 15 matches. The previous best start was 13-0 to start the 1997 campaign.
The Cavaliers are achieving that success without much opposition either, as the team has dropped only three sets all season while also posting a 7-0 mark against teams that are nationally ranked.
This past weekend at the Kirkwood Classic JCCC swept two ranked teams, downing No. 3 Kirkwood (25-11, 25-17, 25-18) and No. 6 Heartland (25-21, 25-15, 25-13) in straight sets on Saturday afternoon. JCCC opened the classic with a 4-1 win over Lincoln Land (25-22, 25-18, 19-25, 25-9) followed by a sweep over Illinois Central (25-14, 25-21, 25-11).
On the court sophomore outside hitter Taylor McCarthy had her best week to date for JCCC finishing with 42 total kills, topping double digits in all four matches, while posting a .320 hitting percentage. She also tallied 41 kills and was in double figures in three of the four matches.
Freshman setter Sydney Fiatte was solid at running the offense. She was in double figures in three of the matches and finished the weekend with 58 assists. She also registered 19 digs.
Sophomore libero Addyson Mock was lights out in the back row for the Cavaliers, highlighted by her 27-dig effort in the win over nationally ranked Kirkwood. She tallied 66 digs overall.
