The 2022 NJCAA Top 20 poll was released for the first time this season on Monday and the Butler Grizzlies were again ranked among the top teams in the nation as they look to head back to the national tournament for the third straight year in 2022.
The Grizzlies come into the season ranked sixth in the nation as they kick off the year with plenty of tough challenges, as they will play five teams ranked in the top 25 in non-conference action. It begins with a trip to Rochester, New York where they will kick off the season with two games taking on Monroe Community College and Iowa Western, ranked 12th and ninth respectively. The Grizzlies also face eighth ranked Hill College and 11th ranked Rose College before ending non-conference action against Laramie County, who are ranked sixteenth.
"This is probably one of the toughest schedules we have put together during my time here," said head coach Adam Hunter now entering his 16th season as head coach of the Grizzlies. "We are looking forward to the challenge and will know real soon where we are as a team playing two very good teams in Monroe CC and Iowa Western later this week."
There will be no respite to the challenging schedule in KJCCC play, as Butler rival Cowley will start the season ranked 14th in the country. The Grizzlies will face the Tigers in Arkansas City on September 10th before a potential rematch of the epic penalty kick shootout last season at Stryker Sports Complex in the Region VI Championship. In addition, Barton received votes in the opening poll and the Grizzlies will host the Cougars on October 15th in El Dorado.
The season begins for the Grizzlies on August 18th against Monroe with a match at 6:00pm central time. The first home match of the season will be on August 28th against Hill College at 11:00am.
